LECTIO DIVINA:
Read: Isaiah relates that the Israelites who were then experiencing oppression and difficulties in life have seen a great light,
that is, a child who will rule in peace and establish justice and righteousness in his time and forever.
Paul tells the Ephesians that God has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing.
In response to the disciples’ question on who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, Jesus presents a little child.
Reflect: What makes a child the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? Jesus himself gives the answer – humility.
A child is humble because he/she accepts that he/she needs others’ help for growth.
The greatest act of humility is to acknowledge our dependence on God, that without God, we are nothing.
Jesus identifies himself with children – when we receive them, we receive Jesus himself.
Children have dignity like the adults. The importance of children is highlighted in the celebration of the feast of the Santo Niňo.
Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta once said that the greatest crime of our time is abortion.
Children are to be loved from the womb to the tomb. What is the future of the world if today we do not care for children,
or worst, kill them in the womb?
Pray: Lord, grant me the humility to accept that without you I am nothing.
Act: Organize a catechism class for children, especially among street children.
