when he asks for a fish? However bad you may be, you know how to give good things to your children.
How much more, then, will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him! So, do to others whatever
you would that others do to you: there, you have the law and the prophets.
REFLECTION:
In the midst of strong wind and heavy rains during the Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in Tacloban, an old lady was
captured by the camera braving the storm holding an image of the Sto. Niño. When asked, what happened? She replied that
her house was razed to the ground and the only thing she was able to save was the Sto. Niño. She held on to it because according to her,
only God was left for her. Such is a profound display of faith and trust in God. In times of desolations, people with faith sees life beyond sufferings and deaths.
To have faith is not to acquire everything we desire. It is to remain in God even in the most hopeless and disheartening
experiences in life. In today’s readings, Jesus assures us the kind of Father we have. He is like all the good parents
who provide and ensure the well-being of their children. Let us be like that lady in the middle of a devastating typhoon,
literally holding on to God and trusting that good things shall come as God did throughout history.
