news throughout the countryside. Wherever he was, they brought to him the sick lying on their
mats; and wherever he went, to villages, towns or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplace,
and begged him to let them touch just the fringe of his cloak. And all who touched him were cured.
Reflect
Ahike in the woods on a crisp sunny day. Sitting on the beach as the waves lap at my feet. The look
of wonder on a small child’s face. All of these turn my thoughts to the power and majesty of God.
Science has worked for thousands of years to understand and explain the mysteries of nature, but
ultimately, we can only respond in wonder and awe.
Today’s readings underscore God’s power. Simply by speaking his word, God calls all of creation
into existence. From nothing his word creates everything. Jesus too exercises this awe-inspiring
power. His touch – even just the touch of the fringe of his cloak – brings healing. This power is
always in service of healing and wholeness. It can be tempting to believe that everything is
on us, that only we can make things happen. But God is in control. Our response is to
rest in God and share the news of his goodness with everyone we meet.
