For no one has seen the Father except the One who comes from God; he has seen the
Father. Truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.
I am the bread of life. Though your ancestors ate the manna in the desert,
they died. But here you have the bread which comes from heaven, so that you may eat of
it, and not die. I am the living bread which has come from heaven; whoever eats of this bread will
live forever. The bread I shall give is my flesh, and I will give it for the life of the world.”
Reflection:
Jesus continues to expound on the bread of life discourse. No one
comes to Him without being drawn by the Father. It looks like that Jesus is the
bait of the Father to those whom He wants. And through Jesus Christ many
have become members of God’s new family. What benefit does one get in this
new family relations? You inherit eternal life for you will now be continuously
fed by the bread that comes from heaven, Jesus Christ Himself. Now this does not
operate like magic. Once becoming a member of God’s family, it makes you
an heir to eternal life. But you need to listen to Jesus’ instruction and model your
life accordingly. Thus, this is both a gift and a task. We need to do our part to fully
benefit from the gift above.
