but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” Another disciple said to him, “Lord, let me go and bury
my father first.” But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”
Reflection:
Jesus’ ministry is gaining traction day by day. So many people long to
hear His teachings. He sometimes needs to escape from the crowd to have
respite. Others, perhaps overwhelmed by the majesty of His words come
to present themselves as potential followers. But Jesus does not accept
them all. He can discern an emotional decision from that of an informed and
fully consented decision. For sometimes, in an overwhelming feeling of
happiness and joy, we promise too much more than we could afford.
Others have many things to do before they can fully give their hearts freely to
the Lord. These too, Jesus rejected. For if it is not all that we give to the Lord,
it is not good enough. The quantity and the quality does not matter, as long
as we freely give it all to the Lord, His grace will supply what is lacking in our gift.
