them to simple people. Yes, Father, this was your gracious will.
Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the
Father; and no one knows the Father except the Son, and those to whom the Son
chooses to reveal him.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my
yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart; and you will find rest.
For my yoke is easy; and my burden is light.”
Reflect
One of the most fundamental human desires is to belong somewhere, to matter to someone.
The readings for today’s feast are a reminder that God fulfills that desire. We have a place in
God’s family. By Baptism, we belong to the household of God. Indeed, God loves us so much
that he has even counted the hairs on our heads. Nothing we do, say, or need is outside the
scope of God’s concern. Jesus’ Sacred Heart burns for love of us all.
It can be difficult to understand and accept God’s unconditional love. We spend much of our
lives experiencing a very different kind of love which values us because of our looks or status
or what we can do for the other. The readings today make it clear that God’s love does not
depend on such things. God does not love us because we are great and wise. God loves us
in our vulnerability and weakness. And, as beloved children of God, we are called to reach out
in love to those who are poor and vulnerable, those at the margins, to share God’s love with
them by meeting their needs and letting them know that they matter.
