right cheek, turn and offer the other. If someone sues you in court for your shirt, give him
your coat as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go two miles with him. Give when
asked, and do not turn your back on anyone who wants to borrow from you.
Reflect
Procrastination is one of my bad habits. I know that I have a tendency to put things off until
the last minute, so I’ve developed a variety of strategies to make sure that I complete my
tasks in a timely way. It’s just always so easy to find a reason why I should start work –
tomorrow.
The same bad habit that affects our work and study and household tasks can affect our
spiritual lives as well. It’s easy to put off praying or going to confession or doing any of
the other things you know you need to do to conform your life to God’s will. But as Paul
teaches the Corinthians, this is the favorable time. God is calling us to act now, to draw
near to him now, to seek holiness now. Becoming holy is not a one-time effort. We do not
wake up one morning and decide to be holy. Instead, we rise each day, take up our cross,
and follow Jesus. We will face obstacles and setbacks, but God will give us the grace we
need to persevere. The journey is long, but it ends in heaven. Now is the favorable time
to begin.
