standing outside and wish to meet you.” Then Jesus answered, “My mother and my brothers
are those who hear the word of God and do it.”
Reflect
The people of Israel showed the importance of keeping God at the center. One of the first
things they did upon their return from exile was to begin the rebuilding of the temple in
Jerusalem, the house of God. Re-establishing the right relationship with God was their top
priority. When questioned about his mother and brothers, Jesus reaffirmed that those who
kept God at the center of their lives are the true members of his household. By embracing
our baptismal commitment, hearing God’s word and living according to his will, we show
ourselves to be members of God’s family. As God’s beloved children, we keep God at the
center of our lives.
The centrality of God in our lives is not determined by a building or by other outer trappings.
Instead, we open our hearts to God so that we may love as he loves, wholeheartedly and
unconditionally. By obeying God’s will, we become a living sign of his presence.
